Five Attractions of England

London will please most any type of traveler, which with its mixture of modern facets is rich and varied history. No wonder that London is one of the most popular cities in the world considering it’s hundreds of art galleries, museums and other attractions that include theater, nightlife, zoos and music. If you are planning to visit London you should plan to take these five attractions: Westminster Abbey

This cemetery, church and coronation site is the final resting place of great poets, kings and other notables of British descent. Westminster Abbey is still used as a church on a regular basis for events and religious services. The visit is made very valid by the works of art contained in Abbey. The painting of Richard II hangers interior of the west entryway. This is the oldest portrait of a British monarch on display today, and was painted back in 1390.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarchy is one of the most popular tourist attractions in England. If you visit in August or September you will see that the Palace of the 19 staterooms are open to the public. Some areas of the palace are open throughout the year and visitors can see the magnificent architecture of the building, along with other exhibitions. A must see for visitors is the Changing of the Guard as is a tour of 40 hectares gardens and grounds.

Tower of London

Many have heard of the Tower of London, but not everyone knows that served as a prison for many years. The original structure was built to be used as a fortress by William the Conqueror around from 1100 AD. Later, the Tower has evolved into a prison and then at a monument for the collection of sizable Crown Jewels which are still on display today. The highlight of the collection is the 530-carat Star of Africa. The pear shaped diamond is the 2 nd largest in the world, was extracted from a South African mine. The Royal Armories are also an interesting stop at the Tower of London. A spiral staircase running up the inside is the only way up and the British national museum of arms and amour has more than 40000 pieces on display.

Trafalgar Square

This large, open plaza is often the site of political demonstrations and other public events in London. Besides being the intersection of several major streets, the square is a major gateway for sightseeing in the area. The north of Trafalgar Square, you will find the National Gallery, one of the noble art museums in the world. To the west, you will find Canada House, where visiting Canadians may have an idea of the house, it is worth visiting for all. South Africa is on the east side assembly and although it is closed to the public, with stone arches of African animals are worth a look. When you have seen all there is in Trafalgar Square, be sure to visit 10 Downing Street, home of British Prime Ministers since 1732 and the Churchill Museum, both are located within walking distance of the square.

Harrods

A trip to London would not be complete without shopping. Harrods, the largest store in the world, it is even fun for those who only window shopping. This million square meters of commodity dream is becoming buyers, looking to spend some money. Harrods’s slogan is Omnia Omnibus Ubique, meaning “All Things To All People Everywhere.” Harrods, which has been for 150 years of existence, as has been the latest to date as iPods. Many of its departments are world famous for their huge selection and quality. Popular services include a seasonal Christmas shop and Food Hall, where you can choose from over 300 different varieties of cheese.
